The Girl

I'm interested to see what Hollywood will do to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I read Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy a couple years ago for the first time, and the entire set quickly moved to the top of my " gotta read it again (and again)" list. Lisbeth Salander is easily THE most interesting literary heroine since Scarlet O'Hara, in my mind. In fact, I am pretty sure it's heresy to say so, but I would say she tops out Scarlet. The Swedish version of the movie was, in a word, AMAZING. It held true to the book, the casting was superb, and I was blown away. I don't think there is any need to make another movie, but Hollywood, in typical fashion, thinks it would be better in English--mostly I just think they have run out of original ideas. Regardless, I am excited to see what they do with it. But no matter how good or bad a job they do, I will say this: watch the original Swedish version. And for Pete's sake, READ THE BOOKS!

Here is Hollywood's trailer:

  1. Today, I am watching a Charlie Rose piece/interview on the upcoming American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and in asking how they chose the actress for the role of Lisbeth Salander, called it "the most coveted role since Scarlett O'Hara."

Nice. Very nice. :) I have made comparisons between the two characters many times, and they are certainly my favorite literary heroines of all time!
